Ayurveda Shunyata Villa's social commitment
Social commitment, responsibility & projects have been enshrined in the memorandum since the founding of our company (Shunyata Ayurveda (PVT) Ltd.) in 2003 and are therefore an essential part of our vision. Part of Ayurveda Shunyata Villa's profits goes into local social work. After our tsunami projects were completed, we invested our social commitment in longer-term measures such as training aid, special education and other assistance for disadvantaged children.
Social projects
The new projects were simply the result of the emergencies in which our village schools and the local temple were located.
We financed a new library for the village school because the old one was bursting at the seams and there were no books available for high school. We are still in contact with this school and have so far been able to fulfill the requests addressed to us, such as financing musical instruments, school books and other construction measures.
The entire dilapidated teaching building of the local temple was extensively renovated and furnished with new furniture, as was the school library. We have been able to finance the new playground for the temple school in recent years and have contributed to the maintenance costs.
Our latest project is the construction of a small community center that also houses a Montessori kindergarten. The local Social Committee has reached out to us about this. As far as possible, the construction work itself was carried out in-house. We were able to provide the majority of the financial resources. In this project, we now provide for the monthly salary of the teacher and her assistant, as well as the required teaching material. We are also responsible for ongoing maintenance costs.
But we are partners not only for these larger projects. Locals come to us again and again with requests for support. Be it for surgical costs, the purchase of a hearing aid, or the purchase of expensive medicines that are not covered by government health care.
If you would like to learn more about our work or support it, we look forward to hearing from you message.
Personnel policy
Even before Ayurveda Shunyata Villa was founded, it was clear that we did not want to participate in the exploitation of underprivileged people in Sri Lanka, who can be found in most hotels in the country.
- As a result, we pay fair wages (our employees earn more than twice as much as in other Ayurveda hotels).
- All of our 30 local employees are permanently employed and have comprehensive social security benefits (we do not have day labourers or seasonal workers).
- All employees work a 5-day week, and every overtime is paid.
- All account for 10% of the actual total turnover.
- All personnel areas are very generously staffed, which prevents extensive exploitation of employees.
- We also take responsibility for our employees and their families outside of Ayurveda Shunyata Villa and support them in emergencies, whether with expensive medical treatment for family members or repairs to their homes.
